Devcon 8 Scheduled for Mumbai

The Ethereum Foundation has announced that Devcon 8 will take place in Mumbai, India, from November 3 to November 6, 2026. The major bi-annual gathering for the global Ethereum community will be hosted at the JIO World Center. Organizers noted that the dates fall just days prior to Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, which takes place on November 8, 2026.

Developer Growth and Regional Adoption Drive Selection

Explaining the decision to bring the conference to India, the Ethereum Foundation highlighted the rapid expansion and scale of the country's developer ecosystem, alongside high local crypto adoption and strong grassroots Ethereum communities. Data shared by the Foundation indicates that India features over 17 million developers on GitHub and has been the largest source of new crypto developers globally since 2023. Additionally, India has led global crypto adoption for two consecutive years, accompanied by steady growth in university activity, meetups, hackathons, and local community groups.

The Foundation pointed to existing local initiatives shaping the ecosystem, including ETHMumbai, Devfolio, and Polygon. Mumbai was chosen as the host city due to its role as a key international hub with a deep technology base and strong transport accessibility for participants from across India and Asia. Organizers stated that hosting Devcon 8 in Mumbai will reinforce existing regional momentum and lower barriers for new builders connecting with global contributors.

Conference Scope and What to Expect

Devcon, short for Developer Conference, is organized bi-annually by the Ethereum Foundation to advance decentralized systems. While maintaining a strong focus on technical engineering, the Foundation emphasized that the event extends far beyond protocol development to cover areas such as digital economics, research, art, community governance, public goods, and education. As a result, attendance is open not only to software engineers, but also to designers, infrastructure operators, researchers, educators, social economists, and creators.

Devcon 8 will feature four days of programming within a single venue, including multiple stages, technical workshops, sessions for newcomers, Supporter spaces, Community Hubs, and Discussion Corners, alongside community-curated art and music. Further details regarding track programming, speaker submissions, volunteer sign-ups, and ticketing will be shared in the coming months via official updates on the Ethereum Foundation newsletter, X, Instagram, and Farcaster.

To minimize scheduling conflicts and manage traffic congestion in Mumbai, the Ethereum Foundation encouraged independent event organizers to hold side events either before or after the official Devcon dates. The organizers have also invited individuals and organizations within the local Indian community, event sector, and broader Web3 network to get involved through an official submission form.
