Borussia Dortmund is reportedly making a determined push to sign 18-year-old Greek attacking midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas from Belgian club KRC Genk, with the Belgian side setting a minimum asking price of around €35 million.
The deal and why the price tag matters
Karetsas, who plays as an attacking midfielder for KRC Genk, has reportedly caught BVB’s eye as a potential long-term successor to Julian Brandt. Reports of Dortmund’s interest surfaced around July 11-12, 2026, with multiple outlets noting that negotiations are proving difficult.
The sticking point is Genk’s valuation. The Belgian club has reportedly drawn a line at €35 million, roughly $38 million at current exchange rates. For an 18-year-old who hasn’t yet played in one of Europe’s top five leagues, that’s a serious number.
Dortmund’s history with Greek players adds an interesting wrinkle. Sokratis Papastathopoulos played for the club from 2013 to 2018, establishing a minor pipeline between BVB and Greek talent.
