FC Barcelona just added German forward Karim Adeyemi to its roster in a deal worth up to €29 million, structured as €22 million fixed with up to €7 million in performance-based add-ons. The 24-year-old signed a five-year contract with the La Liga giants, leaving Borussia Dortmund after four seasons and 36 goals in Germany’s top flight.
Inside the deal
Barcelona’s opening bid landed at roughly €20 million. Dortmund said no.
What changed the math was Adeyemi himself. The German-Nigerian attacker made it clear he wanted Barcelona and only Barcelona, which put Dortmund in the classic seller’s dilemma. The player had just one year left on his contract, set to expire in June 2027. Holding out for a higher fee risked losing him for nothing 12 months later.
So Dortmund took the pragmatic route. They accepted a package that could reach €29 million if the add-ons trigger, but the guaranteed cash is €22 million. In football economics, that’s a discount for a player who posted 10 goals and 6 assists in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season alone.
Barcelona director Deco and super-agent Jorge Mendes orchestrated the negotiations. Adeyemi is reportedly awaiting medical examinations before the club makes everything official.
