Solana came within roughly 4.5 percentage points of halting transaction finality when 28.83% of staked SOL briefly became delinquent due to a major infrastructure routing failure, according to staking protocol Marinade Finance. The incident impacted 90 validators and resulted in a combined loss of 333 SOL in validator rewards. While the network came close to the 33.34% delinquency threshold required to halt finality, Solana's official public status page recorded no active outage for the day.
Infrastructure provider Helius noted that Solana blocks require at least 66% of stake votes for confirmation and 31 subsequent confirmed blocks for finalization. Marinade warned that exceeding the one-third delinquency line stops finalization entirely. The disruption originated from a Teraswitch routing fault on autonomous system AS20326, which carried 118.89 million SOL—representing over a quarter of all staked SOL. Marinade reported that 94% of the SOL on that autonomous system went dark simultaneously.
In addition to AS20326, another 14.1 million SOL across providers including Latitude.sh, Limestone, Butterfly Research, and Allnodes experienced downtime during the exact same minutes. Marinade stated it could not determine whether those simultaneous drops stemmed from coincidence or an unconfirmed shared dependency. Meanwhile, Teraswitch confirmed that 12 international sites lost internet reachability after a malformed Miami default route was distributed through a route reflector in AMS2 to European and Asia-Pacific markets, causing core routers to reject the malformed path.
Teraswitch engineers located the malformed route within 10 minutes, disconnecting Miami from the private backbone and restoring service by 4:16:15 a.m. UTC. Marinade reported that 59 affected validators holding 80.2 million SOL reconnected once routing converged, noting that no validators failed over prior to recovery. Following the event, Marinade announced plans to review its stake concentration limits across autonomous systems and data centers and evaluate validator failover mechanisms.
