President Donald Trump signed the GENIUS Act into law today, establishing a regulatory framework for stablecoins backed by U.S. dollars.Β

The law is intended to provide regulatory clarity for digital asset issuers and exchanges.

While the legislation does not directly mention Bitcoin, it could impact the broader digital asset ecosystem by fostering a more defined legal environment.

At the signing ceremony, Trump stated, β€œthis is really a big day. This is a very big thing and I want to thank Senator Bill Hagerty, a very good friend of mine. This is going to make America stronger, and congratulations, it’s good for the country.”

He linked the bill to his broader digital asset agenda, referencing his appearance at the Bitcoin Conference: β€œExactly this month many of you were in Nashville, Tennessee, when I became the first president ever to address the Bitcoin conference. I pledged that we would make the U.S. the crypto capital in the world, and this is only going further.”

Trump also highlighted earlier initiatives: β€œFirst week in office I established the first presidential working group on digital assets. I stopped the weaponization of government against crypto, and Bitcoin, we stopped Choke 2.0., and I freed Ross Ulbricht.”

He cited his March executive order on reserves: β€œLast March I signed an executive order establishing the U.S. strategic Bitcoin reserve as well as the U.S. digital asset stockpile, and with today’s signing we are pushing even more into the exciting frontier.”

Explaining the rationale behind the law, Trump said, β€œmany Americans are unaware that the technical backbone of the financial system is decades out of date. Payments and money transfers take days and even weeks to clear. The GENIUS Act provides banks, businesses and financial institutions a framework for issuing crypto assets backed one for one with real U.S. dollars.”

He added, β€œI also remain fully committed to my pledge never to allow a central bank digital currency in America.”

AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks called the law β€œa step to making the United States the crypto capital of the world,” adding that β€œThe GENIUS Act will unlock dominance in the crypto industry by creating rules of the road.”

Trump concluded by signaling more Bitcoin and crypto-related legislation ahead, calling it β€œa really hot industry.”
